Complete Radiation Boundary Conditions: Minimizing the Long Time Error Growth of Local Methods
نویسندگان
چکیده
We construct and analyze new local radiation boundary condition sequences for first-order, isotropic, hyperbolic systems. The new conditions are based on representations of solutions of the scalar wave equation in terms of modes which both propagate and decay. Employing radiation boundary conditions which are exact on discretizations of the complete wave expansions essentially eliminates the long time nonuniformities encountered when using the standard local methods (perfectly matched layers or Higdon sequences). Specifically, we prove that the cost in terms of degrees-of-freedom per boundary point scales with ln 1 · ln cT δ , where is the error tolerance, T is the simulation time, and δ is the separation between the source-containing region and the artificial boundary. Choosing δ ∼ λ, where λ is the wavelength, leads to the same estimate which has been obtained for optimal nonlocal approximations. Numerical experiments confirm that the efficiencies predicted by the theory are attained in practice.

Radiation boundary conditions for time-dependent waves based on complete plane wave expansions
We develop complete plane wave expansions for time-dependent waves in a halfspace and use them to construct arbitrary-order local radiation boundary conditions for the scalar wave equation and equivalent first order systems. We demonstrate that, unlike other local methods, boundary conditions based on complete plane wave expansions provide nearly uniform accuracy over long time intervals. This ...

In issues related to air pollution, the thickness of the boundary layer is known as the depth of the mixed layer because the pollution on the ground surface is mixed in this entire layer through turbulence processes. In most cases, the boundary of the area is clearly visible on big industrial cities. The depth of the mixed layer has an important effect in the concentration of air pollution whic...
متن کاملBuoyancy Term Evolution in the Multi Relaxation Time Model of Lattice Boltzmann Method with Variable Thermal Conductivity Using a Modified Set of Boundary Conditions
During the last few years, a number of numerical boundary condition schemes have been used to study various aspects of the no-slip wall condition using the lattice Boltzmann method. In this paper, a modified boundary condition method is employed to simulate the no-slip wall condition in the presence of the body force term near the wall. These conditions are based on the idea of the bounce-back ...
متن کاملOn the Accurate Long-time Solution of the Wave Equation in Exterior Domains: Asymptotic Expansions and Corrected Boundary Conditions
We consider the solution of scattering problems for the wave equation using approximate boundary conditions at artificial boundaries. These conditions are explicitly viewed as approximations to an exact boundary condition satisfied by the solution on the unbounded domain. We study both the shortand long-time behavior of the error. It is proved that, in two space dimensions, no local in time, co...
متن کاملA quantitative investigation on lung tumor site on its motion tracking in radiotherapy with external surrogates
Introduction: In external beam radiotherapy each effort is done to deliver 3D dose distribution onto the tumor volume uniformly, while minimizing the dose to healthy organs at the same time. Radiation treatment of tumors located at thorax region such as lung and liver has a challenging issue during target localization since these tumors move mainly due to respiration. There are...
